There was a time when I thought I had a pretty good idea of how life was supposed to go.
I had plans. I had dreams. I had timelines.
And if I’m being honest, I expected some things to happen much faster than they did.
What I’ve learned over the years is that dreams don’t always unfold in a straight line. Sometimes they take unexpected turns. Sometimes they get delayed. Sometimes they look completely different than what we imagined.
But a detour doesn’t mean the journey is over.
Lately, life has been busy. Between launching and growing Coffee With Cassie, stepping into my real estate career, serving clients, creating content, and simply navigating everyday life, this blog has taken a back seat. Yet even during the quieter seasons, God has never stopped working.
I’ve found myself learning new things, taking risks, and stepping into opportunities that honestly felt a little intimidating. Starting something new later in life can be scary. There are moments when you wonder if you missed your chance or if everyone else is somehow further ahead.
Then God gently reminds me that He never asked me to compare my journey to someone else’s.
He simply asked me to trust Him.
Some of the people God used most powerfully in Scripture didn’t step into their calling early in life. Moses was 80 years old when God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Abraham waited years for God’s promise to be fulfilled. David spent time tending sheep before ever sitting on a throne.
God has never been limited by age, timing, or circumstances.
And thankfully, neither are our dreams.
The older I get, the more I realize that God’s timing often protects us from receiving things before we’re ready for them. The delays that once frustrated me now look a lot more like preparation.
The lessons.
The setbacks.
The closed doors.
The waiting.
None of it was wasted.
If you’re walking through a season where it feels like your dream has been delayed, I want to encourage you today: don’t give up.
A detour is not a dead end.
Keep taking the next step. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep trusting. Keep believing that the same God who placed that dream in your heart is still writing your story.
You may not be where you thought you’d be by now, but that doesn’t mean you’re behind.
You may be exactly where you need to be.

Sometimes God doesn’t remove the detour because the detour is part of the destination.
